During infancy, it is obligatory to clean gums of the infant after each feeding. Wipe gums with clean moist cloth or a gauze tampon. After the teeth cut, the parents should brush teeth of children daily using a soft moist brush having squeezed on it a pea size portion of the children’s toothpaste. Brush teeth of children at least once a day or according to the doctor’s recommendation.

See that a child does not gulp the toothpaste. Squeeze a pea size portion of toothpasteon the brush until a child reaches 6 years.

If you give a suck-bottle to a child before a day or night sleep, fill the bottle with drinking water only but not with milk, infant’s food or juice in order to avoid caries.

A dentist can recommend a regular fluoridization of the child’s teeth so as to reinforce the enamel and prevent caries.

Preventive coating of fissures with sealants can provide an additional protection of the chewing surfaces of teeth against caries cavities. Such coats are made of plastic materials and applied on the striated chewing surface of the posterior group of teeth.

Teeth of children begin to form before birth. As early as at 4 months the first teeth begin to cut – these are the central lower incisors that are followed by the central top incisors. Though all 20 first teeth grow by three years of age, their time and sequence vary from case to case.

You should begin to worry about the mouth hygiene soon after the child is born. Clean the infant’s gums after each feeding and begin to brush the infant’s teeth as soon as they cut.

Permanent teeth start to cut at about 6 years of age: first the molars appear and then the central lower incisors. This process is on-going until an individual reaches about 21 years.
