What is dental deposit?
Dental deposit is a sticky film that is permanently formed on all surfaces of your teeth and consists of bacteria, by-products of bacteria and saliva. Bacteria found within the dental deposit consume sugar and other carbohydrates, grow and form acids that erode the enamel and may lead to a formation of caries cavities. The dental deposit that grows in inaccessible areas along the gum edge and between teeth may be harmful. Bacteria contained in the dental deposit give off toxins that irritate gums, causing their reddening, edema and bleeding – all these are typical symptoms of gingivitis. It is very important to diagnose gingivitis because it can be reversed. If gingivitis has been identified and no care and adequate treatment have been administered, it can progress and result in a more serious disease of the gums.
It is easy to understand why it is so important to brush teeth with a toothbrush and the interdental spaces with a floss and other special appliances in order to remove dental deposit and keep your teeth and gums healthy.
